July 2024

So excited about The Battle of the Billionaires (released August 2024 on all digital stores)which will be my first single release from my work at the residency in Memphis. Calvin Lauber made this very special with an impeccable mix as well as his work on bass. And amazing work from drummer Shawn Zorn (Dashboard Confessional).  Here’s a sneak peak

April 2024

It’s been an absolute game changer to work with engineer/mixer Calvin Lauber (boygenius /Paramore/ Julien Baker) on some of my new material from the residency. it’s really embellished and perfected the sound. Can’t wait to release this stuff. I think the Battle of The Billionaires will be the first single. This was recorded with him at Memphis Magnetic Recording Here’s a video excerpt i did for my friend Wayne’s awesome Substack blog and soon to be podcast @musicfragments.

I am in an obscure small southern town of the USA that you won’t have heard of. It’s called Memphis, Tennessee. It’s a shame there’s not really any music culture here but I’ll make do! Mwahahaha, what a crazy cool city! It actually is a very small population which makes it all the more crazy that such incredible internationally known music has come from here; not to mention crucially important political and social movements and moments. I feel very privileged!

“Shut up and tell us why you’re there” I hear you scream. Oh sorry yes. Well, I was very fortunate enough to be chosen as an artist in residence at the incredible Crosstown Arts in midtown Memphis. This basically means that for 3 months i get to write and record music and figure out the meaning of existence! Actually it mostly means i get to touch a piano every day, which is something I think i might need forever more! Memphis and Crosstown is bursting with talent and the other artists here are really inspiring. Fingers crossed I will get to perform in December in The Green Room where I’ve already seen a bunch of shows; it’s a really wonderful space.

I will keep you posted with postings.

May 2023

I’m not gonna lie, the pandemic made me question a lot about writing and performing. i didn’t know if i was gonna do it again. But while i was busy deciding, a few songs crept up on me and insisted on being finished. And then i met a really nice guy (imagine, in New York!)  - an engineer / producer who I’ll be recording with. He pushed me to perform and offered to play bass. Sam is the cool looking one in the photo! This was my first show at a venue in 3 years - Rockwood Music Hall- one of my faves!

Annoyingly, the show went well so now i have to do carry on! What I’m really trying to say is “I’m back baby!”

BIO

Performing as vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist, danieljmorrow is a British singer/songwriter residing in Brooklyn, NY since 2002.

Daniel initially came to NYC from the U.K. to follow up with RCA about their interest in his first band co-star

Daniel fell in love with Brooklyn, formed a new band and began performing regularly throughout the city. Forever oscillating between up-tempo indie rock and introspective singer/songwriter, he eventually settled on a dual approach using danieljmorrow for his solo work and The Morrow for band work.

With an enormous back catalog of unreleased songs, Daniel has been finding some music licensing placements. Meanwhile, his debut solo album, "Underneath" was released in 2018 and was described as “emotive songwriting….in a newly discovered dark pop genre” .

After a pandemic induced hiatus, Daniel has a new collection of material, slated for release in early 2024. He is back performing in New York, and in Memphis, where he is on a music artist residency.

Throughout Daniel’s work, there is a desire to write strong songs with an undercurrent of quirkiness, experimentation and often humour.

Initially working with drummer Kevin Kahawai of Dead Leaf Echo, The Morrow line up eventually settled on a collaboration with Brooklyn based musicians Alex Sherba, Jonathan Vergara and Gabby Ess. The band saw the release of 2 EP’s and a feature length album. The music hinted heavily at 90 ’s influenced indie rock but the added textures of harmonies and a fierce, angular guitar sound gave the band a unique feel.
